Driveways & Front Yards
Choosing the Right Pavers for Your Driveway or Front Yard
Pavers are one of the most versatile materials for driveways, walkways, and front yards, but not all pavers are built the same. The three most common options — concrete, clay brick, and natural stone (like travertine) — differ in cost, durability, heat retention, and maintenance.
Concrete pavers are the most budget-friendly and come in the widest range of colors and patterns. They're manufactured to a consistent size, which makes installation faster and more precise, and they hold up well under vehicle traffic when installed over a properly compacted base.
Clay brick pavers cost more but resist fading better than concrete, since the color runs through the entire brick rather than sitting on the surface. They're an excellent choice for front walkways and entries where long-term color retention matters more than raw driveway durability.
Natural stone pavers, including travertine, are the premium option. Travertine stays noticeably cooler underfoot in direct sun, which makes it a favorite around pools and patios, and it has a timeless, upscale look. It costs more up front but rarely needs replacing.
Best-use guidance: use concrete pavers for high-traffic driveways on a budget, clay brick for front walkways and accents, and travertine for pool decks, patios, and front-yard features where appearance and heat performance matter most.
