Pool Remodels
When a Pool Needs More Than Resurfacing
Not every dated-looking pool needs a full remodel — but some warning signs mean resurfacing alone won't solve the underlying problem, and it pays to catch these before committing to a project.
Structural cracks that run through the shell (not just surface cracks in old plaster) often point to shifting or settling and may require structural repair before any new surface is applied — resurfacing over an unstable shell will crack again.
Persistent water loss beyond normal evaporation usually means a plumbing leak, not a surface issue. This should be diagnosed and repaired first; no interior finish, including a fiberglass overlay, will stop a leak coming from cracked pipe or fittings.
Coping and deck separation — where the deck has visibly pulled away from the pool's edge — often signals soil movement underneath and may require the deck to be removed and the base re-compacted before it's rebuilt, rather than simply patched.
If none of these apply and the issue is purely cosmetic — faded or rough interior finish, outdated deck material, or worn coping — a resurfacing and deck remodel is the right, cost-effective path, and can typically be completed far faster than addressing structural issues.
